What is BOTOX?
BOTOX Cosmetic is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that temporarily softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions. Manufactured by Allergan, BOTOX contains a highly purified form of botulinum toxin type A and is an effective treatment to smooth frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet. It can also be used to refine a gummy smile, lift the brows, slim the jawline by relaxing the masseter muscles, and enhance overall facial balance. In addition to its cosmetic benefits, BOTOX is widely used to treat certain medical conditions, including migraines and excessive sweating.

Where Can I Get BOTOX in Manhattan?
At 740 Park Plastic Surgery, BOTOX cosmetic injections are performed by Tamara Spaide, RN, MLA — an Allergan-certified injector with extensive experience creating natural-looking results. Every treatment plan is carefully tailored to your unique facial anatomy and aesthetic goals to help you look and feel your best.
How Should I Prepare for My BOTOX Appointment?
Preparing for your BOTOX treatment is easy — and a few small steps can help you get the best BOTOX results possible.
Before your appointment:
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 to 48 hours, as it can increase the risk of bruising.
- Talk to your doctor about pausing anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen or aspirin about a week beforehand.
- Let us know if you take any medications or supplements that affect blood flow or clotting.
- Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, creams, or skincare products.
Your injector will walk you through everything during your consultation, so there’s no need to stress. Just come relaxed and ready to refresh your look with your BOTOX treatment.2
What Happens During a BOTOX Appointment?
Here’s what you can expect during your BOTOX treatment at our Manhattan office:
- Consultation: Tamara will meet with you to discuss your goals, evaluate your facial anatomy, and create a personalized treatment plan. She will recommend the best placement and dosage to achieve natural-looking results.
- Preparation: Before your injections, a topical numbing cream can be applied to the treatment area to enhance your comfort, although many patients find the procedure easily tolerable without it.
- Injection: Using a DermaSculpt® Microcannula — a specialized, ultra-fine instrument — Tamara carefully administers your BOTOX cosmetic injections with precision and minimal discomfort. This technique also helps minimize bruising at the injection site.
- Time: The entire appointment typically takes less than 20 minutes, making it easy to fit into your day.

What is Recovery Like After BOTOX ?
There’s little to no downtime after BOTOX treatment. Most patients are able to return to work or regular activities right away. You may notice mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection sites, but these effects are temporary and often resolve within a few hours. Minor bruising can occasionally occur and may take a few days to fully fade. To support your best BOTOX results, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, or lying flat for the rest of the day. Your injector will provide detailed aftercare instructions to help you heal comfortably and achieve smooth, natural-looking results.
How Soon Will I See BOTOX Results?
Most patients begin noticing smoother skin within 3 to 5 days after their BOTOX treatment. Full results typically appear within 7 to 10 days as the treated areas gradually relax and fine lines fade. Results usually last between 3 to 6 months, depending on how your body naturally metabolizes the product. To maintain your refreshed, youthful appearance, you can schedule touch-up treatments as needed.
Who Is a Candidate for BOTOX ?
If you’re starting to notice fine lines, crow’s feet, or frown lines — or simply want to look more refreshed without surgery — you may be a great candidate for BOTOX treatment. Many of our patients choose BOTOX as a way to maintain a youthful, energized appearance with minimal downtime and natural-looking results.
You may be a good candidate for BOTOX if you:
- Are bothered by forehead lines, crow’s feet, or frown line
- Want to soften the early signs of aging without cosmetic surgery
- Are in generally good health
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
The best way to find out if BOTOX is right for you is to meet with an experienced injector who understands facial anatomy, subtle rejuvenation techniques, and how to create a personalized treatment plan that fits your goals.

Frequently Asked Questions About BOTOX®
What does BOTOX do to your body?
BOTOX works by temporarily relaxing the specific muscles that cause wrinkles from facial expressions, such as frowning or squinting. It doesn’t affect your entire body — only the targeted areas. By softening these repetitive movements, BOTOX smooths the skin and helps prevent deeper lines from forming.
How long does BOTOX last?
Most patients see results within 3 to 5 days, with full improvement in 7 to 10 days. The effects of BOTOX typically last between 3 to 6 months, depending on how your body metabolizes the product and how active your facial muscles are.3 Maintenance and touch-up treatments can help you maintain your results long-term.
How much does BOTOX cost near me?
The cost of BOTOX in NYC depends on how many areas are being treated and the number of units needed to achieve your goals. Every face is different, so we’ll create a personalized treatment plan and pricing during your consultation and provide a detailed quote before starting. Many of our patients find the treatment to be both effective and affordable for maintaining a refreshed appearance.
What age is best to start BOTOX?
There’s no single “right” age to start BOTOX ®. Many patients begin in their late 20s or early 30s to prevent deeper wrinkles from forming, while others wait until visible lines begin to appear. If you’re noticing expression lines or want to take a proactive approach to aging, BOTOX may be a great option.
What else is BOTOX used for?
Beyond cosmetic procedures, BOTOX is FDA-approved to treat several medical conditions, including hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating, often in the underarms), chronic migraines, TMJ symptoms such as jaw tension and teeth grinding, overactive bladder, blepharospasm (eye twitching), and neck pain caused by cervical dystonia.4
Will I look frozen or unnatural?
BOTOX and dermal fillers both help reduce signs of aging, but they work differently. BOTOX targets the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles — like crow’s feet and forehead lines — by temporarily relaxing them. Fillers like JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, on the other hand, add volume to areas that have lost fullness, such as the cheeks, lips, or smile lines. When used together, they can deliver a balanced, youthful appearance.
What’s the difference between BOTOX and Dysport?
BOTOX and Dysport are both neuromodulators made from botulinum toxin that relax facial muscles and reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. The main difference is in how quickly they work and how they diffuse within the treated area. Dysport may spread a little more, making it a great option for larger areas like the forehead, while BOTOX offers precise, targeted treatment. During your consultation, we’ll help you decide which cosmetic treatment is best for your goals.
Can BOTOX be combined with other cosmetic treatments?
Yes! Many patients combine BOTOX with dermal fillers like Juvederm or Restylane to achieve more complete facial rejuvenation. BOTOX can soften expression lines, while fillers add volume to areas like the cheeks or lips. We can also discuss pairing BOTOX with cosmetic procedures like microneedling or chemical peels for enhanced results.
What are the potential side effects of BOTOX ?
Side effects after BOTOX are usually mild and temporary. You may experience slight redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. Rarely, some patients notice minor headaches or temporary drooping in the treated area.5 Our board-certified team takes every precaution to minimize side effects and support a smooth recovery.
