How Does BOTOX® Work?

Wrinkles, such as the glabellar lines or “11” lines that form between eyebrows, occur as a result of repeated muscle contractions. We express a range of emotion on our faces and years of smiling, frowning, squinting, and raising our eyebrows can create fine lines and wrinkles. BOTOX® is a neuromodulator that utilizes botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax the underlying facial muscles in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles for smoother, younger-looking skin.

Preparing for BOTOX®

BOTOX® is a quick and non-surgical procedure that requires minimal preparation. You may have a more optimal experience and results if you refrain from drinking alcohol for several days before your injectable treatment; you should also talk to your doctor about discontinuing anti-inflammatory medications for two weeks before treatment.1

What to Expect During Your BOTOX® Injections

Tamara is an injector who evaluates each patient and the areas to be treated and discusses her recommendations for the placement and amount of BOTOX® needed to achieve your desired results. BOTOX® will be injected using a Dermasculpt® Microcannula, which is a specialized ultra-fine needle that may reduce discomfort and minimize the potential for bruising. The entire BOTOX® treatment typically takes less than twenty minutes.

BOTOX® Recovery

We take a careful approach to BOTOX® injections in order to provide as quick of a recovery as possible. You may experience some minor swelling or bruising at the injection site, but these side effects should resolve quickly. Patients typically resume regular activities and work right away, although strenuous exercise should be avoided for the rest of the day.

BOTOX® Results

You may see some immediate results, but patients usually see optimal results in the treated areas about one week after their injections. Results typically last three to six months, at which point you may opt for another BOTOX treatment to keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay in order to maintain a youthful appearance.
